Spirituality to Leap Over Walls
David’s famous confession in Psalm 18 is that through God, he can run against a troop and leap over a wall.
During the 3-Cord prayer gatherings, the pastors would meet each morning to share and reflect not only on the 3-Cord theme, but also on the life of David. One thing that stood out to us was how David didn’t say he could break through the wall or go around it—but that he could leap over it.
What do you do when there’s a wall in front of you?
We talked about the differences in spirituality between the Korean and English ministries. When I think of Koreans, I think of strength and perseverance—if there’s a wall, they’ll break through it. Americans, on the other hand, tend to find a way around the wall—we're quick thinkers and often look for practical solutions or shortcuts. Neither is wrong. Both are ways of dealing with the wall. But David’s confession was different. He said, “Through God, I can leap over it.” That’s something no human effort or tool can do.
So what was the spirituality of David?
David was a man after God’s own heart. He was a worshipper who rebuilt the temple of praise. When the ark of the covenant was brought into Jerusalem, David celebrated with songs and instruments—it was a festival of praise. He found strength in worship, and by setting his eyes on God, he was able to leap over walls.
It makes me think of our current sermon series—how God brought the Israelites out of slavery, not just to free them from their oppressors, but to lead them into the land of Canaan. Ultimately, God’s desire was to dwell with His people—to build the tabernacle and bring them into a place of worship where His presence could be with them.
The kind of spirituality that allows us to leap over walls comes from a heart of worship and a deep relationship with the Lord. The more we walk with Him, the more we seek Him, the more we trust and rely on Him—He gives us the power to do the impossible.
The only way we can leap over the walls in our lives is by building our lives on worship and prayer.
I pray that the walls in your life won’t feel like obstacles, but opportunities to experience the supernatural power of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit. May you be a worshipper who worships in spirit and in truth. May you experience God’s goodness and His victory in every moment of your life.
May we leap over the walls in our lives.
Amen.
