Eternal Hope
Last week, I heard about one of our KM church members whose husband had been in a terrible car accident. He was in a coma, and by the following Sunday, I heard that he had passed away. This Thursday, I attended his funeral. As they shared about his life, they mentioned that while he wasn’t a believer, he had begun attending church in recent months. On his deathbed, even in a coma, the Gospel was preached to him—and they said that as they shared, he shed tears. We believe that in that moment, he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord.
It made me think a lot about life—and death. In our final moments, what truly matters? As this man passed from this world, our one hope and desire was that he had come to know Christ. We prayed for him to believe, and we hope and trust that he did. Why? Because deep down, we know the only thing that matters in the end is whether or not we will be with Christ.
I also reflected on my own heart:
When did I lose sight of eternity?
When did I become so consumed with the day-to-day that I forgot what we’re really living for? Life on earth matters, yes—but our ultimate hope isn’t found here. It’s found in heaven. It’s the Gospel that saves. That’s why we must remain faithful to preaching the Gospel—for the salvation of those who have not yet believed.
I remember my time in Turkey as a missionary—how we preached the Gospel every day, hoping that even one person would believe. And I think about those in our own church who have yet to come to faith. We continue to pray for them, trusting that one day they will turn to Jesus.
This is what matters. This is what we’re living for.
If there are still people who have yet to hear, let us look for every opportunity to share the grace of Jesus Christ. As Scripture says, we do it “that we might save some.” (1 Corinthians 9:22)
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
Amen.
