A Powerful Time of Prayer: Reflections on Our 3-Cord Early Morning Prayer

This past weekend, we gathered as a church—people of all nations, generations, and languages—to cry out to the Lord in our 3-Cord Early Morning Prayer. It was a powerful time of seeking God together, and through these prayers, we see the Lord moving and answering our cries. Personally, I was so encouraged to see many members of The Well come out for this time of prayer. In the history of our church, this was the largest attendance we’ve had for an early morning prayer gathering!

As I participated, I heard many people share how, for the first time, prayer didn’t feel long or burdensome. I intentionally spent time asking individuals what they were praying for so I could join them in intercession, and one thing became clear—everyone is carrying some kind of burden on their heart. Yet, what stood out even more was how hungry and thirsty everyone was for the Lord. It reminded me of something God has been pressing on my heart: the importance of prayer in our lives and in our church.

As people, we often rely on our own abilities and strength. Whether in church or in life’s challenges, we tend to depend on planning, structure, and problem-solving. While these things are not inherently bad, we can sometimes focus too much on them and not enough on seeking God first. But during our 3-Cord Prayer, I could sense a deep desperation for God to move. It was a beautiful sight to see our church crying out to the Lord together.

Prayer is just that—it is an acknowledgment that we cannot do it without God. It is the understanding that apart from Jesus, we can do nothing (John 15:5). It is recognizing our deep need for the Lord’s presence and power in our lives. Even in my own heart, God has been revealing how much I need Him—not just personally, but also for our church. My hope and prayer is that we would become a church that seeks and relies on the Lord above all else.

I am so grateful for where the Lord has led us. Fellowship is important. Growing together is important. But my hope for our next step as a church is that when we gather, we would pray for one another. When someone faces difficulties, may we do more than just listen or offer advice—may we get on our knees and intercede. Whenever we plan events or take any step forward as a church, may we first bring it before the Lord in prayer.

When man works, man works. But when man prays, God works.

Amen.
